Control comes first

Charter school foes are running out of excuses,” writes Matt Rosenberg in the Seattle Times. Washington’s Legislature is considering a bill to authorize a limited number of charter schools.

Legislators say the big opponents of charter schools here are powerful statewide associations representing school-board members and top school-district administrators. Control comes first, kids second. That’s contemptible.

    Hey, I’m all in favour of teachers maintaining control of the classrooms, but it should, ultimately, be for the benefit of the student, not for themselves.

    The list of opponents should also include the teacher and other school employee unions.

    Well, the “educators” in Washington and other states are sure giving their youthful charges a valuable life lesson: CYA, self-interest, cupidity and stupidity.
