I thought butter went rancid and milk went sour. But then I can remember milk cartons with the little paper doors that were sort of pressed into a hole in the top of the carton.

It's about time! I absolutely hated those cartons of milk and juice. I never complained, but I also never drank out of them if I could help it. I went through 8 years of schooling without drinking anything with lunch. They never opened the way they were supposed to and then you had icky bits of cardboard floating around. Yuck.

Of all the things to complain about? Who on earth, except kindergartners, or special needs students, needs help opening a paper carton of milk? Thumbs inside the tuck, fingers curled outside the tuck, pressing firmly against the thumbs with both halves of the soon-to-be-spout grasped between thumbs and fingers. Pull firmly and carefully apart, squeeze the spout open once the tuck is opened fully.

Making a late surge from the back of the pack, Edwonk might win the prize for the most nearly perfect hothouse flower of 2004.
