I’d like to thank my guest bloggers, Kimberly Swygert and Ben Cunningham, for filling in for me while I was on vacation. They did so well that readership went up, which did dent my ego a bit.
Costa Rica was beautiful. I now know about leaf-carrying ants, blue herons, snowy egrets, quetzals, toucans and the difference between two-toed and three-toed sloths. It’s not just the toe thing.

But did you see any Jesus Christ lizards? They’re the ones with big webbed feet who lurk on the shore of a lake or river until a fish comes to the surface and then run out ‘walking on water’ (hence the name), grab it, and swim back to shore to devour it.
Don’t let it dent your ego, Joanne. The subs did a great job, but we missed you.

Yes, but did you see any raptors?
Hi Joanne,
Was this your first trip to CR? My wife is from there. I first spent a whole college semester there (1986), and have been back myriad times to visit the in-laws since marriage.
It truly is a remarkable country, in terms of its natural beauty and the friendliness of its people.
