California “Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger denounced a state appeals court ruling that severely restricts homeschooling and promised Friday to change the law if necessary to guarantee that parents are able to educate their children at home,” reports the San Francisco Chronicle.
“Every California child deserves a quality education, and parents should have the right to decide what’s best for their children,” Schwarzenegger said in response to the ruling, which said children educated at home must be taught by a credentialed teacher.
. . . “This outrageous ruling must be overturned by the courts, and if the courts don’t protect parents’ rights then, as elected officials, we will.”
The state has no homeschooling law; homeschoolers fear an explicit law will restrict the flexibility they had before the ruling.

Hooray!
Thank you, Governator!
Not so fast. This is the same idiot that “worked with legislators” (LA Times) to craft and approve SB 777. This isn’t support - this is political irony in the extreme. If he’s so concerned about a parent’s right to choose the method of their child’s education, why sign into law something that overrides a parent’s right to do precisely that?
The man is an embarrassment.
California does have a homeschool law, like all other states… it just hasn’t been enforced.
Andrea, What law are you talking about?
“California does have a homeschool law, like all other states… it just hasn’t been enforced.”
You won’t find homeschooling explicitly mentioned in the California laws covering schooling.

What Andrea means is that homeschooling is illegal in California.
Of course, then I noticed that Andrea has a blog and is a HSing mom…whoops! Sorry, Andrea.
