‘Banana boys’ suspended

Zion-Benton Township High in Illinois has zero tolerance for monkey business, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.

Eleven students were suspended for seven days after one dressed up in a gorilla costume and chased 10 wearing banana costumes through the school last Thursday.

As senior pranks go, it was kind of funny. But apparently it violated the school policy against . . . silliness.

As with any prank, there has to be some punishment to ensure that future pranks are tame like this one. Seven days though… that’s going overboard. Maybe a day or two of detention.

To the great folks at Zion-Benton, may I suggest the mannequin hand shake for the Superintendent or Principal at graduation? There’s little they can do after you’ve got your sheepskin. And they really do look ridiculous standing there holding a hand as you leave the stage, both fists in the air.

“The same policy led to five-day suspensions for kids caught fighting in school.”

So a harmless prank where no one is hurt and no property is damaged or destroyed is worse than fighting in school? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

As a former student of zion benton. the seven day suspension and community service is less than they should have recieved. Let me explain..

In 2003 or 2004 the senior class destroyed the highschool pool filtering system by jumping into the pool after a mudwresling match that was their senior prank.

After the destruction (which I may add) was very costly to the school. Zion Benton Banned senior Pranks at the school there after. Any student caught pulling a senior prank would lose Prom and walking stage rights.

It has been this way ever since.

These 11 students, Knew this, and still decided to pull their little prank.

Now do I agree with these obsured rules about senior pranks. No of course not. However these students did know the consequinces of their actions prior to proforming this little stunt.

    Kt Flamini -
You do not know what you are talking about - these boys were never told that Sr. pranks were not allowed. They were not even given the Senior Contract to sign before this happened.
So if you want to comment on something - know what you are talking about first.

All senior pranks banned! Now there’s a clear and specific directive.
