Teaching troublemakers

Writer: Joanne JacobsJoanne Jacobs

Jessica Lander writes about strategies for teaching troublemakers.

She likes Carla Shalaby’s book, Troublemakers, subtitled “lessons in freedom from young children at school.”

A former elementary teacher, Shalaby focuses on four first- and second-graders who are “daring, charismatic, silly, curious, creative” outside of school, as Lander puts it. In school, they’re considered problems.
