Teaching Veterans Day

What So Proudly We Hail has published a Veterans Day curriculum, which includes Mark Twain’s The War Prayer,  an Ernie Pyle dispatch, Digging and Grousing, Ronald Reagan’s speech on the 40th anniversary of D-Day and more.

My grandfather’s older brother, Morris Leaf, was killed fighting in France in World War I. I wonder if he served in the “lost battalion,” which was made up of “unruly polyglot New Yorkers of Chinese, Italian, Irish and Jewish extraction.”
